Tow Your Camper Trailer Securely

Trailer towing tips, trailer towing capacity, trailer towing mirrors

It was Sunday morning and I was enjoying sun on the roof of my home. My wife and children had planned to go for a trip to my village in the fields to enjoy the holiday. They appeased me to accompany with them. We have to carry a lot of luggage as we were planning to shift in our farm house very soon. I consulted my friend about towing my camper trailer securely as he is in the towing business. He suggested me to arrange a camper trailer, a towing vehicle, towing package and a brake controller. He also advised me to follow some necessary instructions listed below:

• All the loose items should be secured in the camper properly by tucking into cabinets or securing in totes other wise these may be flown by the air

• Trailer jacks should be raised under the camper.

• Your vehicle should be backed up to the front of camper trailer. You will have to take help of another person for the purpose.

• Towing ball on your vehicle should be positioned exactly under the towing hitch of the camper trailer.

• Towing hitch of the camper trailer should be lowered down so that it lays over the towing ball of your vehicle.

• The latch on the towing hitch of the camper trailer should be secured to lock it securely on the ball of your vehicle.

• Wires should be hooked up from the camper trailer to your vehicle.

• Do not forget to check and make sure that all brake lights and turn signals are working properly before you get on the road.

• The two safety chains connected to the camper trailer should be hooked on to the towing vehicle.

• Do not over load the camper. The total weight of the camper and load should be less than the tow capacity of your vehicle.

• Use towing package that includes a transmission-oil cooler, a heavy-duty battery, heavy-duty shock absorbers and other tow equipment to manage the stress of a heavy load.

• Use trailer mirrors in place of standard vehicle mirrors for the front doors of your tow vehicle to improve driver’s view.

• Use proper rating class hitch for towing. It should be capable to handle the gross trailer weight. Choose one according to your needs as Weight-carrying hitches are suitable for small to medium size trailers. On the other hand Weight-distributing hitches provide improved steering and braking and are suitable for heavy loads.

• Pack your camper carefully keeping in mind proper weight distribution so that your vehicle and camper are much stable. You should try to keep 60% of weight in the front portion and 40% n the rear portion of your camper.
You may be planning your holiday and may have to carry a lot of luggage. Needless to say follow the advice of my friend and enjoy your journey
